Sharon Thompson is known for her bold and original designs and her
extraordinary use of colour, pattern and texture on both ceramic and mosaic
work.
|
Her ability to incorporate classic designs with ancient motif or pattern and
ethic textures into her work makes her designs original and unique.
Never afraid to try a new medium or design and often incorporating
typography into her work, the evidence of her graphic design training
becomes apparent.
Fashion and décor are passions in Sharon's life, fashion designer would
have been her career of choice....so who knows!!!....watch this space...
Highly individual and inventive she exudes a sense of fun and joy into the
artwork she chooses to create or decorate.
Her early professional life was spent in the fast lane of the advertising
sector which provided her with focused business skills.
Says Sharon "in advertising you present concept and visuals, understand the budgets,
become persuasive and learn to be disciplined in your approach, this is a great
platform for any future business."
Sharon's Johannesburg based studio - DISH - was founded at the end of the 1990's.
Born from a need to break from the confines of working only to clients
specific briefs she opened her own studio, gallery and retail store DISH.
Her uncompromising approach and dogged determination to succeed ensured that
DISH became a landmark on Sixth Street Parkhurst.
The year-round Christmas lights, funky neon signage and in-your-face window
displays have entertained the scores of drivers on their daily trek to work
and back.
DISH can best be described as an "emporium galorium" of colourful artwork
and other cool stuff.
Sharon has a unique and frivolous approach to business and life - the fusion
of which translates into her vibrant and individual mark.
